OVERVIEW
The Chianti Classico territory is shared between the provinces of the two municipalities of Siena and Florence. The zone amounts to 71,800 hectares (177,500 acres) and includes the entire territories of the municipalities of Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, Greve in Chianti and Radda in Chianti and parts of those of Barberino Val d'Elsa, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Poggibonsi, San Casciano Val di Pesa and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. The characteristics of the climate, terrains and altitudes, which are unfavorable for most crops, have made Chianti Classico a region that excels in the production of premium wines. "Casa Sola" will be the first winery we visit. The estate is located in the area of Barberino Valdelsa, not far from the ancient road connecting the roman colonies of Florentia and Sena Julia, the modern cities of Florence and Siena. This road which dates back to the I century b.C. has been in use along the centuries and is today 'wrongly' called Via Cassia. In this region full of history and beauty the Casa Sola winemakers produce their premier DOCG Chianti Classico and DOP Extra Virgin olive oil following a tradition that roots back to the etruscan times. After a guided visit to their cellar and vineyards we'll have the opportunity to taste a selection of their prestigious wines combined with some bruschettas and other tuscan snacks. Our lunch will be at "Il Feudo", a typical italian restaurant located inside the stunning castle of Monteriggioni, built by the Republic of Siena in 1213 to protect the region by the incursions of the Florentines. We'll begin with a simple tomatoes bruschetta (basil, olive oil and fresh tomatoes), to continue on with an authentic taste of Tuscany: "pici" (a traditional kind of pasta) with wild boar ragu and "saccottini" (a kind of tortellini) with pear and pistacchio sauce. As dessert the traditional "Cantuccini and Vin Santo". All this, of course, paired with a bottle of the best Chianti! After a short walk of the castle with amazing photo opportunities we'll heading to a second winery named "Villa Trasqua" and located in the southern side of the Chianti Classico region. After an introduction to the wine estate we'll have the pleasure to taste some of their best wines. Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva and Chianti Classico Superiore, will be on the list! All around the villa you will have the chance to take amazing pictures of the magnificent landscape offered by the Chianti Classico region. And after the tasting if you like you will have the opportunity to buy or ship home. On our way back to Florence we'll stop at the fantastic panoramic view of the Michelangelo square. Tour lasts approximately 8 hours.
